Kingfisher aims for market leadership in Russia

13 July 2010

At a ground breaking ceremony for a new 12,000 square metre store in Schelkovo, Russia, the Director General of Castorama announced its five-yuear expansion plans. Matthew Tyson said the home improvement retailer plans to open five to six stores per year over the next five years at an investment of around USD250 million. The retailer plans to have 20 stores in Moscow and the surrounding region by 2015. Tyson said: “For Kingfisher, business development in Russia is a global priority. We are the market leader in France, Britain, Turkey, Poland and want to become the first in Russia. We are proud that Castorama always tries to actively participate in local community life, being a good neighbour. We are different in all countries, focus on the needs and desires of the consumers in each of them.”
