Carrefour continues to seek buyers for its Russian hypermarkets

18 January 2010

According to Russian press reports, Carrefour continues to seek buyers for its three hypermarkets in Russia, considering the possibility of signing an agreement with Karousel or Metro Group-owned Real. Last October, Carrefour decided to leave the Russian market. According to Carrefour’s executives the main reason is attributed to the lack of growth opportunities in Russia. Reportedly, Carrefour's sales in Russia totalled EUR15 million (USD20.9 million) in the fourth quarter of 2009, while they were EUR26 million (USD36.2 million) for the year 2009.
